Hailing from Trincomalee Muttur as his birthplace and having resided in Udupiddy (Jaffna), Mannar Thalaimannar, Colombo, Chavakachcheri (Jaffna), and Scarborough, Canada, Umamaheswaran Poopalan passed away on Saturday, 23-08-2025 in Canada.
He was the beloved son of the late Poopalan and Muthamma,
and the loving son-in-law of the late Vallipuram and Theivanaipillai.
He was the cherished husband of Nageswari (Kunjoo – Canada),
and the loving father of Mathurageetha (Mathura – Canada) and Venugopan (Venan – Canada).
He was also the dear father-in-law of Udupiddy Sivaraasa–Ayyathurai (Canada) and Vanathi (Canada),
and the affectionate grandfather of Avinash Rajeshkanna and Akharan.
He was the treasured great-grandfather of Avenan, Akana, and Aishna.
He was the beloved brother of Nallalingam and Parameswari (Canada),
and the loving brother-in-law of Thanalakshmi and James Anthony (Canada).
He was the caring uncle of Padmarajah (Canada), Padma Ranjani (Canada), Prabakaran (Canada), and Pradeepan (Canada).
He was also the beloved uncle of Indira (Sri Lanka), Chandra (Sri Lanka), Vathana (Germany), Kajan (Germany), and Gayutharan (Germany).
